Biography

Hailing from Slovenia, Jernej Albreht is a versatile clarinettist based in London, where he graduated from an intensive one year Master of Arts programme at the Royal Academy of Music, studying clarinet with Christopher Richards, Timothy Lines, Mark van de Wiel, Laurent Ben Slimane, Lorenzo Iosco and Chi-Yu Mo. His studies, for which he received a Distinction and a DipRAM, were generously supported by the Leverhulme Trust and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. For his undergraduate studies he was awarded a Distinction from the same institution. Jernej also took part in the Erasmus Programme at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris where he received tuition from Pascal Moragues, Arnaud Leroy and Jérôme Comte. He attended masterclasses with Yehuda Gilad, Andreas Sunden and Bjorn Nyman. He also received invaluable orchestral training by participatingi in Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra during his studies.

Jernej regularly appears with orchestras in the UK and abroad as an extra and a trialist. He has been considered for a position with London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia , Hallé Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with Aurora Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Glydenboure Sinfonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia Academy, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, Manchester Camerata, John Wilson Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra as a guest musician. He is also an active West End musician and has held a chair on Les Miserables Arena Tour in 2024/2025 season and has been a deputy on Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Oliver! and Mary Poppins.

Jernej is a member of Levanto Ensemble, together with Camilla Marchant (flute) and Emily Newman (bassoon). The ensemble has been finalist in Royal Overseas League competition in 2021 and 2023 and have since December 2023 been Live Music Now artists.

Teaching plays an important role in Jernej’s career. Jernej is a co-founder of Lammas Green Music Studio, a team of classically trained musicians who provide private music lessons in south London. The Studio has organised several concerts in the local area during 2020, providing students with invaluable performance experience. Jernej is also a visiting clarinet teacher at Alleyn’s School, an independent school in Dulwich.

In his spare time, Jernej enjoys listening to podcasts, exercising and reading. He is also interested in cold water exposure and loves taking a dip in a water barrel in his back garden.
